Two wines from Lagoa

Vinho Branco 2012 Lagoa DOP, Unica – Adega Cooperativa do Algarve, 12.5% abv, €3.50 (euros, shop retail)

Deep cream, hay yellow. Stone fruit aroma and entry with well-forward minerality and fruit notes. Palate is quite full and carries a rounded mouthfeel and tinges of a rancio/slightly oxidised character which adds a generous note to the lingering finish. Great with salads, fish and white meats.

Selecta Vinho Tinto 2011, Marques dos Vales, 14% abv, €4.99 (euros, shop retail)

37% Aragones, 32% Castelao, 21% Syrah and 10% TrincadeiraMid-red/garnet colour. Aromas of dried plums, wild berries and spices, which is carried over to the palate, with red fruits also showing through. Smooth and persistent. Accompanied marinaded Frango (spicy chicken) and sauté potatoes with some aplomb.
